Rule Updates to know before Your 2022 Triathlon Season!
Our officials would like to highlight a few rule changes made by World Triathlon (our sports global governing body), which may impact your races this year.
New wetsuit rule: the wetsuit cutoff limit for those in the 60 – 64 age group and above has changed to 24.6 degrees Celsius. The cutoff for age groups younger than this remains the same, at 22.0 degrees for Olympic distance events and shorter.
Bike riding positions: a new rule has been added forbidding a number of positions on the bike that compromised safety in efforts to pursue ultimate aerodynamics. ‘Supertuck’ positions are no longer permitted, with riders required to remain seated (or at least keep their bum hovering over the saddle) while descending and cornering. Standing to pedal during a climb or sprint remains legal.
A complete list of all World Triathlon Rules can be found HERE. If you have any questions about these updates or any other triathlon rules, please contact us at the office.
Thank you and see you at the races, on behalf of TriMB’s Technical Officials
