SUMMARY:Peace Garden Triathlon
DESCRIPTION:\nThe best course in Manitoba isn’t actually in Manitoba*\n\n\n\n\nWith amazing support from the Race Director and Peace Garden staff\, we’re looking forward to this race’s fourth running. \n\nIf you haven’t yet been out to the Peace Garden event\, you’re missing something truly special.  Triathlon takes over the Garden for one weekend a year\, with participants enjoying the most amazing triathlon playground you could imagine.  Even the campground is a dream. \nNeed more convincing?  Check out Photos from Last Year’s Event. \nThe Mixed Relay returns for 2024\, while last year’s introduction of an Olympic distance event stays on the schedule too\, for two days of incredible racing.\n“What is a Mixed Relay” you ask?  “Um\, it’s like only the coolest thing to happen in sports this decade!”\nSeriously\, it doesn’t matter which sport you choose\, Mixed Relays are Awesome!  In triathlon\, they involve four racers\, each doing a shorter swim/bike/run race\, then handing off to the next member of their team.  Here’s what it looks like for Triathlon – also note the bonus points for Tyler’s greatest beach dive of all time!** \nWhat makes it better still at the Peace Garden?  You get to choose your team – family\, friends\, fastest people you know or funniest people you know\, pick the team you want to be on.  The course distance for each relay leg is suitable for ages 12 and up\, so even younger families can compete.  One of you doesn’t swim – that’s fine too\, just get someone else to swim twice.  Four little triathlons\, however you want to do it – that’s the Mixed Relay! \n\nThis year’s Mixed Relay will be a World Qualifer event\, where the top age group female and male athletes can make their way onto the Canadian Age Group World Championship Team\, for the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Final held in Wollongong\, Australia.  If you’ve already qualified for the Sprint or Standard Triathlon events in Wollongong\, this is a great way to add a ‘test the course’ event to your trip! \n\n“Won’t Someone Think of the Children!”\n\n\nWhile past years of this event featured a stand-alone Kids of Steel Duathlon\, the numbers were low and the volunteer demands to set up a separate course and transition zone were substantial.  Most of the participating athletes were also old enough to take part in the Mixed Relay event too (as many did).  This year\, we’re encouraging our younger athletes to compete in the mixed relay. \nThe mixed relay course is a similar distance to those used for 12 & older Kids of Steel races.  The course features a challenging bike and deep water swim\, so it’s not a course we’d recommend for a younger athlete’s first triathlon participation\, but most athletes that age or older should be comfortable competing.  Because this is the final event on our race calendar before the MB Summer Games\, we can also allow qualified 10-11 year old athletes to participate at this distance\, but ask that you contact our office first to discuss participation options for your younger athlete. \n“Day Two – This Time It’s Personal”\nDay two features individual racing\, with triathlon and duathlon options\, over the Sprint or Olympic distances.  You’ll know the swim\, bike and run terrain quite well from hopefully having raced the day prior\, which means you can enjoy the challenge of a few more km in this beautiful venue and maybe even push yourself to a new level. \nHowever you decide to participate\, we’re pretty sure you won’t find a better way to spend August long weekend than racing and playing the International Peace Garden. \n  \nREGISTER \nTo be eligible for World Championship Qualification in the Mixed Relay\, you must complete an Expression of Interest PRIOR to the event on August 3rd.  That expression must be submitted within the three weeks prior to the event \nEXPRESSION OF INTEREST \n  \nRegistration Options & Pricing \n\n\n\n\nto April 30\nMay 1 to June 30\nJuly 1 to Aug 2\n\n\nSaturday – Mixed Relay per person\n$30\n$40\n$50\n\n\nSunday – Olympic Triathlon\n$80\n$90\n$100\n\n\nSunday – Sprint Triathlon\n$70\n$80\n$90\n\n\nSunday – Duathlon\n$70\n$80\n$90\n\n\nSunday – Sprint Triathlon Relay (per person)\n$40\n$45\n$50\n\n\nSunday – Duathlon Relay (per person)\n$40\n$45\n$50\n\n\n\n\nAll athletes must have a valid Triathlon Manitoba / Triathlon Canada or USA Triathlon membership.  If you do not have an annual membership\, you must purchase a one-day Triathlon Manitoba membership for $20.00 ($10.00 per relay participant)\nEntry fees are non-refundable\nFees cover costs for Athlete chip timing\, Race Officials\, Athlete Swag Bag\, Prizes\, Athlete Post Race Food\, etc. We are a non profit race and extra proceeds will be donated to local youth activities and/or Peace Garden\n\n\n\n\n\nEVENT DISTANCES\nSWIM\nBIKE\nRUN\n\n\nSaturday – Mixed Relay (4x)*\n300m\n10km\n2km\n\n\nSunday – Olympic Triathlon\n1500m\n40km\n10km\n\n\nSunday – Sprint Triathlon\n750m\n20km\n5km\n\n\nSunday – Duathlon\n2.5km\n20km\n5km\n\n\n\n\n* Normally a Mixed Relay is done with four athletes\, each doing a mini-triathlon (300m/10k/2k).  For this event\, we’re happy to allow teams to mix and match whoever does each event – the only requirement is your team needs to do them in the set order – 4x a mini-triathlon.\nIf you have someone who isn’t a strong swimmer or with a running injury\, they can give that leg of the race to someone else.  If you want to race with only three athletes\, it just means you all need to do a bit more.\n\n  \nSchedule Saturday Aug 3 – Mixed Team Relay\n6:30 am – Athlete check-in and race kit pick up. Transition opens (Willis Pavilion)\n8 am – Registration closes\n8:10 – Transition closes / Pre race meeting\n8:20 am – Marshalling team member #1 to swim start\n8:30 am – Mixed Relay Starts.\nApprox. 12pm – Mixed Relay Triathlon complete \nSchedule Sunday Aug 4 – Olympic Triathlon\, Sprint Triathlon and Duathlon\n6:30 am – Athlete check-in and race kit pick up. A podium ceremony will take place following the races at the finish line. \n  \n\n\n \n* – While the International Peace Garden isn’t in Manitoba or Canada\, it isn’t in the US either.  You’ll exit Canadian Customs\, but you never pass through US Customs.  It’s sort of like a duty free area at an airport.  You’ll need a passport or other suitable ID to return to Canada\, but that’s it. \n\n** – That’s a professional athlete on a closed course.  Do NOT try that at home! \n\n
