Kids Fall & Winter Program – ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19

The 2020 Manitoba Summer Games have been postponed to 2021, so once again, we’re looking forward to lots of kids programming and triathlon clinics around the province as we build towards the Games next summer.  Key among that planning is our Kids Fall & Winter Program, which we hope to resume in late October 2020, pending approved / safe facility use.

We plan to have workouts Monday & Wednesday evenings, and a similar schedule to last year, that includes run/fitness as well as swim opportunities.

Triathlon Manitoba has been working with Pan Am Pool, to secure facility use for the program.  However, the recent surge in Covid-19 infections in the Winnipeg area and resulting restrictions from the Province of Manitoba have resulted in a rapidly changing landscape, where we don’t yet know if it will be possible to secure indoor running/fitness facilities for these workouts.

We will continue work to confirm these facilities and will have an update for all later this month.

In the meantime, if you’d like to express your interest in the Kids Program, please let us know.

Thank you for your patience as we work to ensure this program can be restarted safely.

Kids of Steel.

Kids of Steel is a Triathlon Canada program, provincially supported by Triathlon Manitoba. Its mission:

To guide youth development in triathlon and related multi-sport events through the delivery of a standardized program across Canada. The Kids of Steel® program will focus on the encouragement of healthy active living, lifelong participation, safety, fun, the building of skills, and involvement of Canada’s youth.

In support of the KOS program, Triathlon Manitoba hosts an annual Kids of Steel race series for children between 6 and 15 years old as of the calendar year end; as well as a training program. Manitoba Triathlon Centre has programs for 12 years and older as of the calendar year end who wish to develop in triathlon under professional coach supervision.

The KOS race program adheres to a standard set of rules which include age categories, maximum distances, bike regulations, and “no exceptions” on racing in an older category – see the KOS Principles and Rules and related KOS policies.

For the KOS current year race series information on location and registration, see Triathlon Manitoba’s event calendar for the Kids of Steel category.

All Kids of Steel race registrants must:

  • Adhere to the Kids of Steel Equipment and Guidelines
  • Have a Kids of Steel Triathlon Manitoba Membership
  • Have at least one parent or guardian attend the race

To encourage participation, finishers from 6 to 11 years of age as of the calendar year end, will be listed in the results alphabetically with their time in each age group. No placings will be awarded.
