Kids Program and Clinics

As Spring finally arrives, our Kids Program evolves to introduce outdoor running and make room for racing on Tuesdays later this month.

Annika Niblock will continue as our head coach for the program.  Annika is a graduate of the TriMB Youth & MTC Programs, who is currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies at U of M and has also been working through her coaching certifications.  She is keen to help a next generation of athletes fall in love with triathlon by sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for our sport.

The program is targeted at youth 8 – 12 years of age (Birth years 2010 – 2014) and registration is limited to 12 athletes.

Our May Clinic takes place on Saturdays each week, and will consist of a swim workout from 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Pan Am Pool, followed by an outdoor run/fitness workout at the Grant Park track (next door to the pool).

As a compliment to these sessions, we encourage Kids Program athletes to participate in the Birds Hill Duathlon in the Park Series, on May 17th, 24th & 31st.  Further details and registration for the Duathlon Series and other Kids of Steel events are available in our Event Calendar.

Kids of Steel.

Kids of Steel is a Triathlon Canada program, provincially supported by Triathlon Manitoba. Its mission:

To guide youth development in triathlon and related multi-sport events through the delivery of a standardized program across Canada. The Kids of Steel® program will focus on the encouragement of healthy active living, lifelong participation, safety, fun, the building of skills, and involvement of Canada’s youth.

In support of the KOS program, Triathlon Manitoba hosts an annual Kids of Steel race series for children between 6 and 15 years old as of the calendar year end; as well as a training program. Manitoba Triathlon Centre has programs for 12 years and older as of the calendar year end who wish to develop in triathlon under professional coach supervision.

The KOS race program adheres to a standard set of rules which include age categories, maximum distances, bike regulations, and “no exceptions” on racing in an older category – see the KOS Principles and Rules and related KOS policies.

For the KOS current year race series information on location and registration, see Triathlon Manitoba’s event calendar for the Kids of Steel category.

All Kids of Steel race registrants must:

  • Adhere to the Kids of Steel Equipment and Guidelines
  • Have a Kids of Steel Triathlon Manitoba Membership
  • Have at least one parent or guardian attend the race

To encourage participation, finishers from 6 to 11 years of age as of the calendar year end, will be listed in the results alphabetically with their time in each age group. No placings will be awarded.
