Kids Triathlon Program

Train like a Triathlete Year-Round!

Our Kids Summer Program runs June to August, providing young athletes with the opportunity to participate in sport specific workouts led by great coaches.

Summer sessions will take place Monday & Wednesday at Birds Hill Park from 6:30 to 8:30 pm. The program will consist of open water swim, bike, run, and training through transitions. This program is designed to develop fitness and strength for all three sports.

The program is targeted at youth 8 – 12 years of age.

Triathlon Manitoba is fortunate to have two excellent coaches leading the program, keen to help the next generation of athletes fall in love with triathlon by sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm for the sport.

Annika Niblock is a graduate of the TriMB Youth & MTC Programs, competed in triathlon at the 2019 Western Canada Summer Games and is currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies at U of M. Darian Hole is a former MTC athlete, having competed as part of Team Manitoba at the 2013 Canada Summer Games, he brings a wealth of experience from his years in the sport.

The other essential members of each team are the coach and manager.  Our five regional teams will each need one coach and one manager (one male, one female), to support the kids.  If you’re interested in helping us deliver this opportunity for our youngsters, in any capacity, please let us know.

The two documents below are from the 2020 Games (updates will be posted as soon as the 2024 versions are available), but both provide more information for the coach and manager roles:.

Kids of Steel.

Kids of Steel is a Triathlon Canada program, provincially supported by Triathlon Manitoba. Its mission:

To guide youth development in triathlon and related multi-sport events through the delivery of a standardized program across Canada. The Kids of Steel® program will focus on the encouragement of healthy active living, lifelong participation, safety, fun, the building of skills, and involvement of Canada’s youth.

In support of the KOS program, Triathlon Manitoba hosts an annual Kids of Steel race series for children between 6 and 15 years old as of the calendar year end; as well as a training program. Manitoba Triathlon Centre has programs for 12 years and older as of the calendar year end who wish to develop in triathlon under professional coach supervision.

The KOS race program adheres to a standard set of rules which include age categories, maximum distances, bike regulations, and “no exceptions” on racing in an older category – see the KOS Principles and Rules and related KOS policies.

For the KOS current year race series information on location and registration, see Triathlon Manitoba’s event calendar for the Kids of Steel category.

All Kids of Steel race registrants must:

  • Adhere to the Kids of Steel Equipment and Guidelines
  • Have a Kids of Steel Triathlon Manitoba Membership
  • Have at least one parent or guardian attend the race

To encourage participation, finishers from 6 to 11 years of age as of the calendar year end, will be listed in the results alphabetically with their time in each age group. No placings will be awarded.
