July 25, 2021
Birds Hill Park – Folk Fest, Festival Drive
Springfield, MB R0E 1J0 Canada

Celebrate & Enjoy Our Sport
Before cheering Manitoba’s Top Triathlete on the Biggest Stage!!

Birds Hill Park has long served as a hub for triathlon in Manitoba, hosting the 1999 Pan Am Games, the 2017 Canada Games, countless local events and workouts.  On July 25th, we invite you to join us in the Park as we cheer Manitoba’s most successful triathlete Tyler Mislawchuk in the Olympic Triathlon Event.

The Tokyo Olympic Games have scheduled the Men’s Triathlon event for Monday, July 26th at 6:30am Tokyo time…  which is 4:30pm on Sunday, July 25th in Manitoba.

Here’s the plan:

  • Come to Birds Hill Park for an afternoon of swimming, biking and/or running of your choice
  • Join us at the Winnipeg Folk Festival parking area from 4:00 onwards, as race coverage begins
  • Parking attendants will assign you a parking spot, which will ensure we abide by all provincial health orders
  • TriMB will rent several large screen TVs and sound system to ensure everyone has a good seat for the show
  • Watch the World’s best at their best and cheer Tyler towards Olympic success

We will have food from Willy Dogs on-site and bathroom facilities available as well, but you’re certainly welcome to bring food and drink of your own if you wish, and we’d recommend camp chairs or blankets too.  We can’t allow alcoholic beverages, as our insurance doesn’t provide such coverage.

PRE-REGISTRATION ONLY to manage event numbers under PHOs

Entry cost is $5 per person – limited to 150 people, with no additional processing fees or taxes – we wanted to make it as accessible to everyone as we could, while still tracking registration through CCN to ensure our event complies fully with Provincial Public Health Orders and allows safe distancing so everyone registered can fully enjoy the event.

Hope to see you there to celebrate our sport and cheer what could be the biggest moment in our history!

Beat The Heat virtual Triathlon – CANCELLED

July 30, 2021 - August 10, 2021

1JustCity has opted to hold off launching this event in 2021, but looks forward to hosting our local triathlon community again in February 2022 for a hopefully-non-virtual Beat the Cold Winter Triathlon.

Beat the Heat is our new summer triathlon hosted by 1JustCity and TriFactor where weekend warriors, super athletes, and fun-letes alike will run, bike, walk, hike, rollerblade, and more in the sweltering August heat.

The Event

Beat the Heat, 1JustCity’s summer version of our winter triathlon Beat the Cold, was created as a way to raise money for our summer programming and help families create blissful summer memories.

From July 30 to August 10, beat the summer heat and race to raise money to help us create incredible, meaningful summer experiences for Winnipeg’s underloved.

Just like Beat the Cold, Beat the Heat runs for 10 days to give racers the opportunity to be flexible with their time and creative with their sports and outfits!

The Race

For Beat The Heat, there’s only one race option: create your own course with your choice of summer sports and location! You can choose whichever routes and sports you’d like, but your race MUST have 3 distinct legs. There is no minimum distance, but just make sure you have 3 race legs.

To track your race and be entered into our daily prize draws, use the Strava app (or any other GPS app) and send screenshots of your completed race to beattheheat at 1justcity.ca

Entries must be submitted by 6 p.m. on the day you completed your race in order to be counted. Otherwise, they’ll carry over into the next day’s entries and be drawn then.

In the email, please include a picture of yourself, your race activities, the screenshots of your completed race, and a short blurb about why you decided to beat the heat this year. Unless stated otherwise in your email to us, your post may be used to promote the event on social media.

The Cause

1JustCity’s mission is to create a Winnipeg where everyone is welcomed, supported, celebrated and empowered. To bring us closer to achieving our mission, every summer at 1JustCity we make sure that all Winnipeg families can build meaningful memories together through our summer programming. 1JustCity organizes family trips to the beach and museum, large BBQs, and berry picking, PowWow clubs, outdoor scavenger hunts, and more! For many kids, these are the stories they’re able to tell their friends back at school in the fall, where they had the opportunity to feel belonging, connection, and not be left out of the fun.

Iron-August Challenge

August 21, 2021 - August 31, 2021

3.8k SWIM: 180k BIKE : 42.2k RUN

You won’t need  to do it all in one day or all by yourself, but that’s our challenge for late August 2021.  It’s up to you whether this challenge sees you join up with friends to log miles; achieve your biggest ever week of activity; complete three amazing endurance workouts in a week or endure one crazy day you’ll remember forever.

Record one workout and you’re already entered to win, but you can earn more entries with each discipline you submit, combining workouts with transitions and by completing the Iron-distance for each discipline.  Here’s how the scoring will work:

3.8k of swimming = 300 points
180k of biking = 300 points
42k of running = 300 points
Brick transition (bike to run) = 50 points*
Swim transition (any type) = 50 points*

If you’re following along, that means doing a 3.8k swim, 180k bike and 42k run all as one workout (2 transitions) means you’d earn 1000 points, but that’s a long, hard day and there are plenty of other options to score points.

In example two, if you ride 60k, that’s 1/3 of 180k, so you’ve earned 100 points.  Running 7k earns you 50 points, because that’s 1/6 of 42k.  We’ll also offer two options (* each can only be earned once) to score transition points – 50 points for connecting a bike and run to a brick workout and another 50 points for any workout-double-up that includes a swim.  However you do it, every effort scores some points for you or your team.

As mentioned above, you’ll get a bonus entry for every discipline you complete.  Challengers completing the full distance for all three events earn an additional three entries, but probably not a belt buckle unless this really takes off.  And if you keep going, you’ll still earn more points and entries – the fun never stops!

So how do you record workouts?

We’ve prepared a Google Form, which seemed the easiest way for everyone to log workouts.  On Monday, after our first weekend of workouts, we’ll share updates so you can see where your team or individual efforts have you on the board, and we’ll work to provide daily updates after that so you can track your progress and challenge your friends.

WORKOUT ENTRY FORM

Daily draw prizes will include $50 gift cards from our sponsors below, plus entries for the upcoming Peace Garden Triathlon Additional prizes will be awarded to top finishers in the team and individual categories.

Be Safe – Go Fast – GO LONG- Have Fun

September 2021

Peace Garden Triathlon – CANCELLED

September 25, 2021
Peace Gardens, 10939 Highway 281
Boissevain, MB R0K 0E0 Canada

Cancelled due to adjusted border protocols related to COVID-19

A change in protocol for at the Canadian Border, crossed upon return from the Peace Garden, means that children under the age of 12 are no longer exempt from required testing or self-isolation when travelling with fully vaccinated adults (as had previously been communicated).  While we appreciate the efforts to keep Manitoba’s children & schools safe, this latest change means several key volunteers, as well as many athletes with families, would no longer be available to attend the event.

As a result, the event is unable to take place in 2021 and will look forward to returning in July of 2022.

The Peace Garden Triathlon will take place on Saturday, September 25th.

For 2021, the event will feature a reduced schedule to simplify our return to live racing, with Sprint Distance Triathlon and Duathlon options.  Importantly, the Sprint Distance Triathlon will also be a qualifier for Age Group Team Canada towards the 2022 World Triathlon Championships in Montreal, Canada.

Those who attended the inaugural event in 2019 already know how amazing this course is.  The swim is in the quiet lake.  The bike course is an amazing rollercoaster on closed roads.  And the run course is the most beautiful location you can imagine – with a finish right on the Canada/US border!

Have a look through the photos from the 2019 event if you need any more proof – this is as good as race venues gets!

October 2021

OFF-tober Challenge

October 1, 2021 - October 31, 2021

One of the best things about triathlon is the variety our sport offers.  Different parts of our event favour different athletes, and training across three sports takes a much lighter toll on our bodies.  But triathlon training also means we’re ready for anything, so that’s what we want to celebrate in our latest challenge.

Welcome to OFF-tober!!

We’re keeping this challenge pretty simple:
– use your triathlon fitness to enjoy something that isn’t part of a standard triathlon.
– share the picture or story with us via social media or e-mail
– that’s it…  you’re entered into the weekly draws for prizes

What kind of activities are we looking for?  Anything.  Only pool swims and rides or runs on pavement will be excluded.  Lake swims may be part of a standard triathlon too, but there are much easier ways to enter than hopping into a lake in October, so we’ll let that one slide.

Get out there and enjoy your triathlon off-season.  Hike, climb or paddle.  Try a new sport and annoy friends by running constantly (golfers hate this, but it sure does liven things up!)  You can even ride or run some new trails.  It all counts!

Play with your fitness, then share your story and we’ll enter you for draws to win $50 gift cards from our sponsors or free access to other TriMB events and programs.

Kids Program – Fall & Winter

October 2, 2021 - October 30, 2021
Pan Am Pool, 25 Poseidon Bay
Winnipeg, MB R3M 3E4 Canada

Thank you to everyone for your patience as we worked to set up the Kids Program for the Fall & Winter sessions this year.

Our Fall & Winter workouts will take place on Saturdays this year – from 9:00 to 11:00 am.

The workouts will focus on run/fitness for the first hour and swimming for the second hour.  The first workout is scheduled for Saturday, October 2nd.

Annika Niblock will be our head coach for the program this winter.  Annika is a graduate of the TriMB Youth & MTC Programs, who is currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies at U of M and has also been working through her coaching certifications.  She’d intended to coach one of our regional teams during the 2020 Manitoba Summer Games and is keen to help a next generation of athletes fall in love with triathlon by sharing her knowledge and enthusiasm for our sport.

The City of Winnipeg is still not able to confirm use of the Pan Am track for indoor run workouts, but we have confirmed our pool time at the facility (secured with Swim Manitoba).  As such, our October workouts will start at the outdoor Grant Park Track, which is in the field next to the Pan Am Pool main entrance, before moving indoors to the pool for the second hour of each session… at least for the first weeks.

Because of this, the program registration is limited to October only right now.  We’ll hope to move to the indoor track later this month and once that is confirmed, we’ll add an additional registration option for workouts from November through to Spring.

There are five workouts scheduled for October (2nd to 30th), with a cost of $25 – which has been reduced to compensate for the uncertainty and because we know it may not be possible for participants to attend all workouts due to the late notice.

Registration is limited to 12 athletes.

REGISTER

One additional note – there is a question in the registration about whether or not the adult dropping your child off at workouts is able to provide proof of vaccination.  In support of Public Health Orders Section 14(1), the Pan Am Pool can only allow facility access to fully vaccinated adults – children are welcome to use the facility and engage in sport regardless of their vaccination status or that of their parents, but drop-offs and pick-ups will require a bit more planning.

Races will be held in waves of a maximum of 18 participants per wave. Wave start times will be communicated after registration closes.

All racing takes place indoors at the U of M facility, with swimming in the Joyce Fromson Pool, before bike and run at the Jim Daley Fieldhouse at Max Bell Centre.

REGISTER

Note the University of Manitoba facilities require that all participants, volunteers and staff must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination status and government-issued identification will be required at entry to sport and recreational facilities and participation in the events.

“Please note: three ply masks are required indoors at all times, but may be removed when participants are engaged in physical activity and while in their individual workout spaces in UM sport and recreation facilities. Coaching Clinic

May 28, 2022 - May 29, 2022

Triathlon Manitoba is thrilled / relieved / excited to host our first Coaching Clinic for the new NCCP Pathway introduced by Triathlon Canada and the Coaches Association of Canada.

The new pathway was developed ahead of the 2020 season, which obviously had some issues.  Lockdowns through the spring of 2021 scuttled our plans again, but for 2022, we’re finally able to deliver the new content to our membership.

Module 1 of the course, which is classroom-based learning, will be held virtually over the weekend of May 28th & 29th.  This module will be spread across two half-days of teaching, allowing interested coaches to absorb the information delivered.
Module 2, which is practical, on-site learning, will follow this fall.

Further details about the coaching program can be found in the infographic linked above and on Triathlon Canada’s Coaching Page.

If you’re interested in attending this clinic, please contact our office.

Intro to Triathlon CLINIC @ U of M

June 4, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm
MB Canada

THE FORMAT FOR THIS EVENT HAS CHANGED

As of May 30th, we had only 16 registrants for an event that required 40 volunteers in its initial design.  While TriMB is investing strongly in our return to sport, we (as other sports) are also experiencing a volunteer crisis.  Taking advantage of the smaller group size and to achieve our goal of providing an introductory event, this event will instead be held as an INTRO TO TRIATHLON CLINIC.

Triathlon Manitoba and the University of Manitoba have partnered to deliver an ideal Intro to Triathlon event.

What’s Involved?

  • The coached sessions will include swim, bike, run and transition practice to prepare you for the season ahead
  • Each portion of the clinic will be led by experienced and qualified triathlon coaches and / or officials
  • As this was always meant to be an introductory event, we’ll still happily accommodate any pace for the activities
  • Coached sessions will last approximately two hours, with
  • Not all of that 2-hours will be active, with some discussion (rules / pacing / nutrition) included amongst the activities

What should you bring?

  • Bring all the gear you need to swim, bike & run (the same you bring with you to an event)
  • We’ll set up a transition area for all participants, so each participant will have a spot of their own
  • Please ensure your bike and helmet are both in good shape and ready for an event

When / Where?

  • Please arrive between 12:30 and 1:00pm on Saturday, June 4
  • Our coached sessions will start at 1:30pm, but ‘transition will open’ 60-minutes prior to the start
  • Just like our other races, we’d ask you please check-in no later than 1pm
  • Arrive at the parking lot just east of the Active Living Centre / Joyce Fromson Pool at U of M

If you have any additional questions, please contact us at the TriMB office.
