Hecla Triathlon – CANCELLED
Due to COVID-19 and the public health state of emergency, this event has been cancelled
2020 Hecla Triathlon
The Hecla Triathlon will take place in Hecla, Manitoba, July 18, 2020. This race started in 2015 and has continued to grow and evolve each year since, and is now home to Manitoba’s only Long Course race.
The event is popular, with an approx. 200 racers. This race won’t disappoint, with tremendous athlete support to ensure the day goes smoothly.
Why Hecla?
-
The swim course is protected by the marina, guarding from what can be an unpredictable Lake Winnipeg, and the run to T1 (~650m) will allow you to shake out your sea legs in prep for your bike.
-
The bike course is flat and fast, lock and load, and keep your eyes open for wildlife!
-
Moving onto the run, you will experience both road and trail, skirting the marina and resort, and hugging the lake.
-
This course will provide you both a physically and mentally challenging race, packed with stunning vistas all showcasing the beauty of the island.

January 2021
Strava Challenge
We have a New Strava Club that we’d love for you to join.
While the club is a great way to stay connected with local triathletes, while learning and sharing new or favourite training routes, it also helps us set up and track the types of challenges we have planned for our members in 2021.
For our first challenge of 2021, we celebrate the job of the Beat the Cold team in delivering a route for the 2020 edition of the race, when unprecedented fall flooding meant no river trails were available for the event. That event used a 2.5km loop that crossed three bridges and took us all around The Forks.
Our January Challenge is to ride or run that loop. There’s no reward for doing it fast, just get out and do it and we’ll enter your name into the draw for prizes.
If you’re a member of our Strava Club, we’ll see your results on the Bike Leaderboard or Run Leaderboard pages, which we can filter for TriMB Club members to see every member who completed that segment in January.
If you’re not on Strava or if that segment is too far from where you live, no worries there either – just ride or run 2.5km in your own neighbourhood and let us know by tagging us on your post, sharing it with us on social media or even by e-mail. We want to include everyone, both to share the motivation and because our prizes are pretty awesome too!!
Finally, we require that anyone taking part in these challenges always respect the rules of the road, any public orders or restrictions in the region and behave in a way respectful to all other road or trail users.
February 2021
Beat The Cold Winter Triathlon
Beat the Cold Winter Triathlon returns in 2021, giving us all a chance to get out an play in the snow, while also contributing to a great cause.
REGISTERThis year, we’re going virtual.
Choose your course, choose your time, and email us screenshots of your participation to enter daily prize draws!
This year’s race is focused on your story and why you’re choosing to beat the cold. When you send us a screenshot of your completed course (including a selfie or group shots of your relay team), tell us why you decided to race this year. Please email by 6:00 p.m. CST to be entered into the daily draw prize. Any emails sent after 6:00 p.m. will carry over and be drawn with the next days entries.
The best part about this race?
All profits go directly to 1JustCity’s overnight warming centre, Just a Warm Sleep. Every night in December and through to March, Just a Warm Sleep invites up to 30 people experiencing homelessness into its outreach site in Osborne Village for a night of safe, warm sleep. There will also be awesome prizes for your fundraising efforts that will support Just a Warm sleep.

Registration Options:
Option 1, Challenge the Course – Individual or Relay Team
Complete the original course set up on the Red and Assiniboine River Trails at The Forks in downtown Winnipeg. Event participants will challenge the 5km run, a 5km bike, and a 5km skate course. The start line, finish line, and turnaround points on the course will be marked with Beat The Cold signs. Please note that the Forks River Trail is an open, public course. We urge all of our participants to run, cycle, and skate safely and to be respectful to everyone else on the trails. All participants must abide by all public health restrictions in place at the time of the race.
Option 2, Challenge Yourself – Individual or Relay Team
Create your own event and be creative with your sports to complete your own multistage, multisport challenge over any distance, anywhere in the world! Your race must have at least two different outdoor sports over three distinct stages. Again, we strongly advise participants to be safe and respectful on public trails or roadways, and to abide by all public health restrictions in place at the time of the race.
Submit Your Results – Win Prizes
However you participate, results can be recorded and submitted via Strava file, tracking app screen shot, or even just a photo of your watch. Submit your times to . Entries must be submitted by 6:00 p.m. the day you race to be counted. Otherwise, they’ll carry over and be drawn with the next day’s entries.

March 2021
Spring Brick Challenge
The Brick Workout is unique to Triathlon.
For the month of March, our Challenge Series celebrates one of the elements that makes triathlon such a great sport – Transitions. This month we’re inviting everyone to complete a Brick Workout – go for a bike ride, and as soon as you finish, transition straight into a run. And we’re happy to offer rewards to help motivate your efforts.
(Do you remember how this feels?)
What is Required?
To enter, complete a bike workout that transitions to a run workout. Given that it’s Manitoba in Spring, we’ll allow a bit of time for transition (30 minutes or less?), but as long as you complete a bike and run shortly after, you’ve qualified.
Once you’ve done your brick, send us some proof via e-mail or by tagging us on social media. Links to Strava, Garmin or any other platform are fine, as are screen shots from a phone, a photo of your watch or even a quick note to say what you did. However you track things, we’ll get you entered, as these challenges are all about motivating people to get outside and enjoy our sport.
Where is the Course?
You’re welcome to use whatever route and distance you’d like for this challenge, so the course is wherever you make it. There is no minimum distance for either segment. We only ask that you respect any public health orders in place and ensure you respect all rules of the road and other road or trail users. This challenge is entirely about getting out and doing it, so there are no points for going faster, just for going out!
What are the Prizes?
Each week, we’ll draw for two prizes – a $50 gift card to one of our four sponsors (listed below) and a free entry to April Run Series. We’ll keep the entries from each week in the draw for the week following, and you can earn one qualification each week, so if you do four bricks through the month of March, you’ll have 2 chances to win a prize in week 1, 4 chances in week 2, 6 in week 3 and 8 in week 4. That’s 20 chances to win!!
Draws will be made on March 8th, 15th, 22nd and April 1st. To qualify for each period, you’ll need to submit by March 7th, 14th or 21st at midnight. For the final draw, the cut-off will be 8:30am on April 1st, so we can include as many submissions as possible. And again, if you submit an entry before March 7th, it will be in every subsequent draw as well (or until you win). You’re welcome to submit on multiple weeks, but we will only offer one entry per weekly submission… just in case there’s some budding star out there who’s doing bricks every day.

If you have any other questions, please get in touch.
Otherwise, we hope to see you out there Biking & Running around Manitoba this March!!

Our goal for this challenge is to achieve the Best Long Run we can – whatever that means to you.
What defines a great run for you? Speed & distance; conversation & company; nature & challenge? All of the above? However you measure a great long run, our challenge to you in the month of May is to find a safe and healthy way to turn that up to 11.
We’re also hoping you’ll share your stories and route ideas with our community, so we can all find great adventures in 2021. Every entry, whether a run story or route, will be entered to a weekly draw for $50 gift cards from our sponsors and entry into other TriMB events.
To get the ball rolling, here’s a route I can offer from last year, when we set the challenge to run the trails around Caddy Lake:

Further adding to this amazing value, Race Organizers will hold weekly random draws for $25 gift cards from Woodcock Cycle Works and City Park Runners. And when the month is over, there will be a random draw for a $1,349.99 Saris H3 Direct Drive Smart Trainer from Woodcock Cycle Works.
There is a $5 discount applied at checkout for current Triathlon MB members. You must register under the CCN Bikes account you used to purchase the membership to receive the credit.
