Peace Garden Triathlon
The best course in Manitoba isn’t actually in Manitoba
If you haven’t yet been out to the Peace Garden event, you’re missing something truly special. Triathlon takes over the Garden for one weekend a year, with participants enjoying the most amazing triathlon playground you could imagine. Even the campground is a dream, or there are the dorms which will be full of other triathletes to hang out with all weekend.
Need more convincing? Check out Photos from previous years.
NOTE – When travelling to the Peace Garden, you DO NOT enter the United States, nor do you deal with US Customs and Border Protection. The Peace Garden exists between the two border controls, similar to a duty free area, so you will require a passport or other ID for the Canadian border control on your way home, but you do not enter the United States or deal with their agents at any time.
Two days of great racing in a venue that’s perfect for triathlon.
Day 1 features the Mixed Relay, which has been one of the most enjoyable additions to Triathlon in ages – if you haven’t tried one, you’re missing out. The race involves four racers, each doing a shorter swim/bike/run race, then handing off to the next member of their team. Here’s what it looks like for Triathlon – also note the bonus points for Tyler’s greatest beach dive of all time!*
What makes it better still at the Peace Garden? You get to choose your team – family, friends, fastest people you know or funniest people you know, pick the team you want to be on. The course distance for each relay leg is suitable for ages 12 and up, so even younger families can compete. One of you doesn’t swim – that’s fine too, just get someone else to swim twice. Four little triathlons, however you want to do it – that’s the Peace Garden Mixed Relay!
“Won’t Someone Think of the Children!”
The mixed relay course is a similar distance to those used for 12 & older Kids of Steel races. The course features a challenging bike and deep water swim, so it’s not a course we’d recommend for a younger athlete’s first triathlon participation, but most athletes that age or older should be comfortable competing.
“Day Two – This Time It’s Personal”
Day two features individual racing, with triathlon and duathlon options, over the Sprint or Olympic distances. You’ll know the swim, bike and run terrain quite well from hopefully having raced the day prior, which means you can enjoy the challenge of a few more km in this beautiful venue and maybe even push yourself to a new level.
However you choose to participate, we’re sure you won’t find a better way to spend August long weekend than racing and playing the International Peace Garden.
This year’s Sprint Triathlon events will be the Provincial Championship as well as a World Qualifier event, as will the Mixed Relay, where the top age group female and male athletes can make their way onto the Canadian Age Group World Championship Team, for the 2026 World Triathlon Championship Final held in Pontevedra, Spain.
To be eligible for World Championship Qualification in the Sprint Triathlon, you must hold a Triathlon Manitoba Annual Membership and complete an Expression of Interest PRIOR to the event on August 3rd.

** – That’s a professional athlete on a closed course. Do NOT try that at home!
Riding Mountain Triathlon
Riding Mountain Triathlon is the premier destination multi-sport event on the prairies. Located in beautiful Riding Mountain National Park, where out of the never-ending wheat fields emerges one of Canada’s best-kept secrets.
The multi-sport weekend is designed for all levels of competitors with
Olympic, Sprint and Super Sprint distance races.
All athletes will benefit from the partners of the Riding Mountain Triathlon, with SWAG coming to ALL athletes in their race kits, as well as inclusion into MANY draw prizes at the awards ceremony.
Post race food for ALL athletes will be catered by Sporty’s Restaurant and Pizzeria (a large variety of food at the finish line!)
The Riding Mountain Triathlon is sanctioned by Triathlon Manitoba and follows their minimum age requirements. An athlete’s age is determined by their age as of December 31, of the current year.
Age requirements per event are:
• Olympic Triathlon and Aquabike – 18 years of age +
• Sprint Tri, Aquabike & Du – 16 years of age +
• Super Sprint – 12* years of age +
(All athletes 12-15 must be proficient swimmers and training in certified triathlon or swimming programs to be allowed to compete as you will be in very deep water and on busy Hwy’s)
• Relay participants – 14 years of age +
**Please note: There are no exceptions to these age restrictions.**

Cost: $200 for the full 10 weeks
-
Capacity: Limited to 15 swimmers to ensure individualized attention
Our coaching team includes Christine McKinley, Chris Torrance, Abby Torrance, and Jared Spier, with two coaches on deck each session to provide maximum feedback and support.
Prerequisite Swim Level
The most common question we receive is: “What level of swimmer do I need to be?”
This program is not a learn-to-swim class. Participants must be able to swim 100m continuously before the program begins; in other words, you should be comfortable passing a deep-end swim test at any public pool. Your stroke doesn’t need to be perfect (that’s what we’re here to help with!), but the coaching is focused on improving efficiency and technique, not on basic water safety.
Note – Admission to the pool is included in the registration.

Kid’s Duathlon – #1
Pan Am Pool is closed for a swim meet, so let’s have some Duathlon Fun!
Our Kids Program heads to the Exchange District on January 24th, trading run/swim for bike/run workouts to make the most of a day without pool access. The bigger venue means we have space for more kids too, so if you’re keen to try multisport training, this is a great chance to try it out.
The event will include warm-ups, races and challenges all focused on biking and running. We’ll use the indoor track and spin bikes available at the Sport Manitoba Fitness Centre.
NOTE – Minimum saddle height for the bikes is 680mm from top of saddle to the pedal at it’s low point
This workout will take place at the Sport MB Fitness Centre, at 145 Pacific Avenue, which has indoor parking at the facility. Registrants are asked to check-in between 5:30 and 5:45 pm, to give time to organize and change, with our event starting at 6:00 pm.

2026 Run Clinic
“If you want to run better, you need to move better.”
You’ve likely heard you can’t win a triathlon in the swim, but you can lose it there – and that’s largely true. But with its position as the final discipline in our racing, the run can always be the most pivotal part of a triathlon. A strong run can save a tough race or cap off a great one. Building an efficient run stride ensures you make the most of your energy late in each race.
To help our members move and run better, Triathlon Manitoba is excited to have Patrick Peacock and Christine McKinley lead these clinics and build towards a successful 2026 season.
This clinic will take place on Sunday, March 22 at the U of M Max Bell Fieldhouse, from 2:30 to 5:30 pm, and has been designed for adult runners from beginner to experienced – if you can run / jog 5k, you’re ready for this clinic!
Attendees should bring run clothes, shoes, water bottle and towel.
Cost for the clinic is $25. Space is limited, and will be first come first served, so register today and don’t miss out.
